Insightful alternative

WorkAndGo vs Insightful

A focused, mature employee-monitoring and productivity-analytics tool. If pure monitoring is all you want, it does that job well.

Where we differ

Insightful only watches. WorkAndGo gives your team a genuinely good chat and HR app they’ll actually use — with monitoring as one transparent, disclosed, Fair-Work-compliant layer, not the entire product. People stay; morale doesn’t crater.

What makes it different

One app, not five

Team chat and calls, HR, clock-in/out, rostering, Fair Work award pay and workforce insight — in a single app your team actually opens every day. Not chat here, a time-clock there, and a monitoring tool no one likes.

Australian by default

Built and hosted in Australia (Sydney), aligned to the Australian Privacy Principles, with a Fair Work award-interpretation engine baked in. Your data — and your compliance — stay onshore.

Monitoring done in the open

Workforce visibility is one transparent, disclosed, Fair-Work-conscious layer — with a per-person off switch and Right-to-Disconnect built in. It supports the team; it isn’t the whole product.

Works with your AI assistant

Ask your AI assistant who’s on shift, what’s outstanding, or today’s attendance — through MyAndGo’s single connector. Calm, useful, and only the tools you choose to expose.

Insightful does employee monitoring properly. It is mature, focused, and if watching activity is genuinely the only thing you need, it will do that job well. The question worth asking before you buy it is whether monitoring alone is what your business actually has a problem with.

The difference is what your team gets in return

A monitoring tool gives an employer visibility and gives an employee nothing. That asymmetry is why monitoring rollouts go badly: staff experience a product installed on them rather than for them, and the resentment outlasts the insight. WorkAndGo is the chat app your team uses all day, with their roster, their leave balance, their timesheet and their payslip in it. Monitoring is one layer inside something they already open, which is a materially easier conversation to have with a workforce.

Where your data physically sits, and why it is not a detail

Insightful’s own privacy policy states: “Insightful Operates from the United States”, that information “may be transferred, processed and/or accessed by us in the United States”, and that if your information is there “it may be accessed by government authorities in accordance with U.S. law”. The words Australia and Sydney do not appear anywhere on their privacy or security pages. That is not a criticism of the company — it is a US product and says so plainly. It is a question for an Australian employer, because screenshots of your staff’s screens are among the most sensitive records you will ever hold, and you will be asked where they are kept. WorkAndGo keeps them in Sydney.

Award interpretation is the gap nobody in monitoring fills

Monitoring tells you someone worked. It does not tell you what you owe them. If you run shifts in retail or hospitality, the expensive question is not whether a shift happened but whether Saturday loading, evening penalties and overtime thresholds were applied correctly. WorkAndGo interprets the shift against the award and shows the working line by line, so you can see how a figure was reached and check it against the current Fair Work rates rather than guessing. It is a calculator and a cross-check, not a replacement for the Fair Work Commission as the source of truth for what you pay.

When Insightful is the better choice

Pick Insightful if you already have chat, HR and rostering you are happy with, and you want a specialist monitoring tool to sit alongside them. Its monitoring feature set is deeper than ours and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. Pick WorkAndGo if you would rather run one app than four, or if where the data lives matters to you.

Questions people ask

Is employee monitoring legal in Australia?

It is lawful in Australia when it is disclosed. WorkAndGo is built for that: monitoring is off by default, switched on per person rather than per workforce, and an employee sees a disclosure naming what is captured before anything is. Personal devices only capture between clock-in and clock-out. We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice — surveillance law differs by state and your obligations are yours — but nothing in the product requires you to monitor anyone covertly, and it will not let you.

Where is WorkAndGo data stored?

Everything your organisation stores stays in Sydney (australia-southeast1): messages, files, HR records, timesheets and screenshots, with backups in the same region. The AI assistant also runs in Sydney rather than sending your team’s conversations offshore for processing. Some service providers we use to deliver the product — email and SMS delivery, for example — operate overseas, which is set out in our privacy policy.

Where does Insightful store data?

According to Insightful’s own privacy policy, it operates from the United States and information may be transferred to, processed in and accessed from there. We are quoting their published policy rather than characterising it, and you should read it yourself before deciding — it is the kind of thing that changes.

How long are screenshots kept?

You choose, per organisation, and the setting is enforced nightly rather than described. Screenshots default to 90 days and you set the period to whatever your obligations require. When a screenshot expires the image is destroyed while the record that a capture happened survives — so your audit trail stays intact and you can demonstrate the retention policy actually ran.

Can employees see what is being captured about them?

Yes. Every monitored person acknowledges a disclosure naming what is collected before collection starts, and can see their own productivity view. Contractors, managers and owners are never monitored regardless of any setting — that ceiling is enforced in the product, not left to an administrator to remember.

What does WorkAndGo cost compared with Insightful?

Personal is free for up to 25 people and includes chat, tasks, calendar, clock-in/out and leave. Starter is $9 per person per month and adds rostering, Fair Work award interpretation and payroll export. Professional is $16 and adds monitoring, productivity analytics and compliance. Prices exclude GST and are charged per person from the first person — there is no minimum and no seat block to buy up front.
